ABSTRACT

To continue directing global sustainable development efforts from 2015 to 2030, the United Nations adopted 17 global development goals known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) when the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) from 2000 to 2015 expired. Sustainable development of World Natural Heritage Sites is one of these 17 MDGs and a crucial step toward achieving global sustainability. A scientific and systematic indicator system that can measure the sustainable development of natural World Heritage Sites more objectively and fairly is urgently needed to support the establishment of SDG11.4 on a Chinese scale and to help with the subsequent promotion of the development of natural World Heritage Sites. This study proposes a comprehensive assessment indicator system for the sustainable development of natural heritage sites based on the theoretical framework of "value contribution-environmental effect” to quantify the sustainable development of natural heritage sites. The study is based on the ecological environment and regional economic and social data of Jiuzhaigou World Natural Heritage Site from 2010 to 2020. Finally, the degree of coupling and coordination between the natural environment and economic development is assessed and studied. The results show that tourism to the World Heritage Site drove rapid economic development in Jiuzhaigou County between 2010 and 2020. As the fame of the World Heritage Site Jiuzhaigou has grown, so has the per capita income of local locals, making them unduly reliant on tourists for a living. Meanwhile, both the 2017 earthquake and the COVID-19 epidemic in 2019 have had substantial detrimental effects on the local economy. Furthermore, the Jiuzhaigou sustainable development trend from 2010 to 2020 exhibits a "W-shaped” curve, and there is a high level of positive coupling between the Jiuzhaigou sustainable development trend and economic development, and the two are mutually reinforcing.

ABSTRACT

Coordination is an important part of the new development philosophy. Promoting the coordinated development is the main goal of deepening the reform and development in state-owned forest region. Aiming to provide scientific basis and theoretical supports for promoting the continuous deepening of reform of state-owned forest region and realizing comprehensive and high-quality coordinated development, the key state-owned forest region in Daxing'anling, Heilongjiang Province was chosen as the research object. A compound system covering ecological conservation, industrial development, enterprise management, well-being of the people and support capability was constructed. The coupling coordination model was used to quantitatively evaluate the coupling coordination status of the compound system from 2000 to 2020. The Grey Markov model was used to predict the trend of coupling coordination development in this compound system from 2021 to 2022. Results show that, after 21-year of transformation and development, the development index of each subsystem of state-owned forest region in Daxing'anling, Heilongjiang Province has been changed, however, the process were different among subsystems. The growth rates of the subsystems of well-being of the people and resource conservation have been high, while the subsystems of enterprise management and the support capability have been lagged dramatically behind. The development stage of coupling coordination of the compound system has changed from misalignment to coordination, nevertheless, the coordinated development level was regressive in recent years due to certain factors such as policy, COVID-19, etc. It is predicted that by 2022, the development stage of coupling coordination of compound system will be recovered to the benign coordinated development type, however, there is still a big gap before it reaches the high-quality coordinated development type. It is suggested that the existing support policies and inputs should be kept stable, moreover, the enterprise management and support capability should be strengthened, in order to promote the stable and high-quality coupling coordinated development in the key state-owned forest regions in Daxing'anling, Heilongjiang Province. © 2022, China Environmental Science Press. ABSTRACT

The convergence of sports and tourism industries is a vital direction for the coordinated development of industries, and a vital means to build a quality life circle suitable for living, working and traveling in the urban agglomeration of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). By using the coupling coordination degree model and exploratory spatial data analysis and establishing an evaluating indicator system for the converged development of sports and tourism industries, this paper measures and analyzes the convergence development level, spatial-temporal evolution, and spatial correlation of the two industries in 11 cities of GBA from 2011 to 2020. The results showed that the synthetical development level of the two industries in urban agglomeration of GBA was steadily rising, with significant differences in regional development, showing the east coast of GBA > the north coast of GBA > the west coast of GBA. The growth trend of industrial convergence degree is obvious, but the overall coupling coordination degree is not high, basically in the late maladjustment stage and transition stage. The convergence of the two industries shows a positive aggregation distribution in space, and the degree of agglomeration is rising. Cities around the Pearl River Estuary mostly belong to the “high-high” spatial association type, with obvious spillover effect, and become a significant growth pole for the converged development of the two industries in GBA. Cities in the periphery of GBA and the west coast of GBA mostly belong to the “low-low” and “low-high” spatial association types. Finally, sustainable development strategies are put forward from four aspects: spatial layout coordination, industrial division coordination, exchange platform coordination, and regional policy coordination, so as to promote the highly converged and coordinated development of the sports and tourism industries in the urban agglomeration of GBA.

ABSTRACT

With the rapid development of urbanization and the widening gap between urban and rural areas, how to effectively enhance the balanced development of urban and rural areas as well as promote the integrated development of urban and rural areas have become heated topics. Based on the basic theory of urban–rural integration and spatial balance, this paper establishes a comprehensive evaluation system. Using a coupling coordination model and an obstacle degree model, this paper selects 32 indicators from aspects of economy, society and ecology to measure the development level of urban–rural integration in 34 prefecture-level cities in Northeast China from 2000 to 2019. We also analyze the spatial pattern, evolution type characteristics and obstacle factors of urban–rural relations. The results show that: (1) The growth rate of urban development in Northeast China is higher than that of rural development. Except for rural ecology, all dimensions of urban and rural areas have increased year by year, but there are large spatial differences within the region. (2) The urban–rural integration development level of Northeast China is growing constantly and the types of urban and rural coordination are all rising to a higher level. Areas with high urban–rural coordination levels are concentrated in the Harbin–Changchun urban agglomeration and the central and southern Liaoning urban agglomeration, with obvious agglomeration effects. (3) In the coordinated development of urban and rural areas, the restrictive degree of the rural social subsystem was higher than that of the urban subsystem. The restrictive factors in the coordinated development of urban and rural areas are relatively stable, and include per capita consumption expenditure, per capita public budget expenditure, books in public libraries per thousand people, etc. (4) The functions of rural social elements should be enhanced, and the social urban–rural integrated development mechanism should be established to promote the integrated development of urban and rural society.

ABSTRACT

This work constructs an evaluation index system and quantitatively explores the coupling coordination relationship between the tourism development system and the medical services system in China. Results show that the degree of coupling coordination between the tourism development system and the medical services system showed a good upward trend in China during the period 2012-2019. However, the relationship was barely balanced, with tourism development lagging. The overall layout shows a spatial pattern of "high in the north and low in the south, high in the east and low in the west." The degree of coupling coordination tends to be randomly distributed from clustered distribution, and the cold-hot spots show a spatial development pattern of "cold in the northwest and hot in the southeast" as time passes. The power of government to regulate has always been an important mechanism affecting the degree of coupling coordination. The study aims to provide reference for the rationalization of medical tourism layout and sustainable development.

ABSTRACT

With the increasingly effective control of the COVID-19 epidemic, the huge implicit demand for explosive tourism consumption growth in China is showing an urgent demand for tourism talents. In this paper, based on the concept of sustainable development and digital economy, the tourism economy is completely explained, the evaluation indicator system of tourism talents and tourism economy and the evaluation model of coupling coordination degree are established, and the coupling coordination between them is studied based on the data of Jiangsu from 2014 to 2018. The results show that (1) The comprehensive development level evaluation index of tourism talents and tourism economy in Jiangsu shows an upward trend, and the development speed of tourism economy is faster than that of tourism talents;(2) At present, the coupling coordination degree of tourism talents and tourism economy in Jiangsu is only at the lowest value of good coordination about 0.5, which has not broken through the antagonistic state and still needs to be improved. (3) The coupling and coordination level of tourism talents and tourism economy in Jiangsu Province shows the gradual improvement of "low coordination-moderate coordination-good coordination", which changes from the former lagging type of low-level and medium-level coordination tourism economy to the lagging type of good-level coordination tourism talents at present with 2017 as the turning point. © 2021 Kriedt Enterprises Ltd. ABSTRACT

Previous Studies, such as the evaluation of the supply of and demand for regional medical resources and carrying capacity assessments, require further development. This paper aims to evaluate the carrying capacity and spatial distribution of medical resources in Shenzhen from the perspective of supply and demand, and to conduct a time-series variation of the coupling coordination degree from 1986 to 2019. The two-step floating catchment area method was employed to quantify the carrying capacity and coupling coordination degree method and spatial autocorrelation analysis were applied to analyze spatial distribution between supply and demand. The results were as follows. (1) The carrying capacity index in more than 50% of the districts was classified as low-grade. The percentage of regions with good grades was 8.27%. The regions with a high carrying capacity were distributed in the central and southeastern areas. (2) The coupling coordination continued to rise, increasing from 0.03397 in 1986 to 0.33627 in 2019. (3) The level of supply and demand for medical resources in Shenzhen increased from 1986 to 2019, and the highest degree of compatibility between the supply and the population size was largely concentrated in the western and eastern regions. This research can provide a theoretical reference for Shenzhen to rationally plan medical resources and improve the carrying capacity of medical resources.
